(5 642 places) |} Maine Black Bears is a club general sports university of the Université of Maine to Orono (Maine). The teams of Black Bears take part in the university competitions organized by the National Collegiate Athletic Association. Maine belongs to division America East Conference. The team of American football evolves/moves in Atlantic Ten Conference while the male and female formations of Hockey are members of the Hockey East.

Hockey

The most famous team of Black Bears is that of male hockey which was national champion NCAA in 1993 and 1999 and three times vice-champion (1995, 2002 and 2004). In 1993, Maine beats Lake Superior State University 5-4 following a third period marked by a triplet of Jim Montgmery. In 1999, Black Bears are imposed upon the rivals of University off New Hampshire by 3 to 2 in prolongation on a goal of Marcus Gustafsson.

American football

The football team American recorded modest résulats with only one participation in a bowl of end of season. It was in 1965 for the Tangerine Bowl. On this occasion, Black Bears were severely beaten 31-0 by East Carolina. In 2007, Maine will leave Atlantic Ten Conference to join Colonial Athletic Association (DI-AAA).
