Maincourt-on-Yvette

Maincourt-on-Yvette is old a common French, located in the department of the Yvelines and the area Île-de-France and today hamlet of the commune of Dampierre-in-Yvelines.

__TOC By the Order of the prefect of the June 14th 1974, Official journal of the June 30th 1974 and effect at July 1st 1974, the commune of Maincourt-on-Yvette was attached to the commune of Dampierre by Fusion-association, the new commune being called Dampierre-in-Yvelines. The Code INSEE of the commune of Maincourt was 78357.

Small hamlet in the middle of the Saint-Beno4it cheese forest, halfway between Dampierre-in-Yvelines and Lévis-Saint-Name, it is almost made up only of old stone houses.

Major curiosity is the “town hall-church” joining together in the same building and back with back, the town hall now used as a city hall annex and the Saint-Germain-of-Paris church which also continues servir.
The current building goes back to 1820, having replaced a preceding construction of XVIe century destroys in 1819. It is the Péristyle of the church which served in 1890 with the establishment of the town hall. The hamlet can be also enorgueillir to have, on the Yvette the river which skirts the village, an old laundrette going back to 1208, gift of Guy de Lévis, lord of the place at the time.

The hamlet is crossed by the secondary road 58 driving, towards the south, with Dampierre-in-Yvelines and towards north, with Lévis-Saint-Name.

Maincourt is also known by a great number of hikers of Île-de-France, the GR. 11 passing near the known as laundrette and one of its branches, the GR. 1C, in the village.
