Main characters of Tschaï
Adam Reith
Adam Reith, the hero of the Cycle of Tschaï is a scout of the land army which travelled with its crew on board the Explorator IV . He has a few centimetres more than the average, of the black hair, a broad face, high cheekbones and hollow cheeks. Its training of scout gave him incredible resources: it has concepts of linguistics, data processing, astronautics, space technology and energetics, biometrics, meteorology, geology and toxicology. It controls all the techniques of survival, it can fight with or without weapons, it knows the dietetics of survival, do-it-yourself of fortune, the mechanics of space propulsion and can even improvise electronic repairs. Adam Reith is a man right, obstinate, courageous and voluntary, doubled of a burning defender of freedom and right of the people to autodéterminer. He is very sensitive to the charms of the female sex and an exemplary courtesy. He makes hunting for the swindlers, the robbers, the swindlers in all kinds and spends much time to audit his accounts. Endowed in linguistics, he quickly learns the rudiments from the vernacular language into force on the Tschaï planet, which enables him to easily communicate with all the humanoïdes of Tschaï. Its obsession during all the novel: to find a spaceship to return on Earth. At the time of its shipwreck on the Tschaï planet, it recovers the toolkit of its ejector seat which will be quite useful for him throughout its tour. It finds there a sondoscope (portable binoculars with high luminosity and strong enlarging), a macroscope (which make it possible to scan the surface of a planet since the space), a gun, a transcom (which enables to locate him the site of its vessel), an energy cell (kind of battery for gun) and a gun with explosive darts.

Traz Onmale
Traz is a courageous and savage teenager, become chief of the tribe of the Emblem under the terms of its prestigious emblem, “Onmale”. Onmale incarnates wisdom, the address and the resolution. Nomad, he is the chief of a tribe who saw plunders and of a little culture and breeding. Traz is a good warrior and a hunter except par, able to feel the presence of embusqués enemies, reading traces of enemies or wild animals left on the ground or in the vegetation. When the two moons Az and Braz cross in the sky, Traz knows that it must return its emblem and die, in accordance with the habits of its tribe. Death in the heart, it however decides to derogate from the tradition, to bury its emblem and to accompany Adam Reith in his search. Throughout their tour, Traz protects Adam Reith from many dangers thanks to its instinct and to its experiment of hunter. Accustomed to hard and austere living conditions, it mistakes the luxury and the refinement of the other races of Tschaï and hardly appreciates the Men-Dirdirs. It is a faithful friend of Adam Reith who will accompany it in his final voyage in direction by the mysterious planet Ground.
Ankhe At afram Anacho
It is a Man-Dirdir with long arms and long legs, a stretched face, a cranium bald person, eyes round and a small discrete nose. With believing Adam Reith of it, his features are semi-human, semi-insectoïdes. It was born in Zumberval, in the Fourteenth Province. It is fugitive, sought by Dirdirs to have derogated from the Dirdir label and to be themselves allotted practices and clothing which was not its row. Rebel, it even threw over edge another Man-Dirdir who accompanied it on a slide block. For Anacho, all the men of Tschaï go down from the first men made on planet with Dirdirs, 20.000 years earlier. But with the wire of time, the Men became in its eyes of simple coarse barbarians, well far from the refinement required by the culture of Dirdir. Anacho has a thorough knowledge of the history of Tschaï and its memory is an appreciable mine of information for Adam Reith. There remains very skeptic when Adam Reith teaches him that he also comes him from a remote planet, the Earth, which is the fatherland of the Men. He thinks that Adam Reith is either insane, or amnesic, however he accompanies it in his search, so much his history the intrigue. Little by little, it will give up the myths of its own race and will end up embarking with Adam Reith and Traz Onmale for the remote planet Ground.
