History of Maillane

With two steps of Rémy Saint of Provence and Tarascon, Maillane is a quiet small village posed in the middle of splendid landscapes: hills of olive-trees and cypress, long roads punts bordered of plane trees, orchards and cicadas, small shaded small squares, shutters of blue or green wood faded by the sun… villages deadened per hour of the nap and merry per hour of aperitif and the pastis… you are here in Provence " chart postale" , beautiful Provence of Alpilles.

By visiting the village, you will discover a pretty typical village of midday, beautiful stone-built houses, old doors, pretty flowered windows, small narrow lanes. You will leave step by step on the traces the poet Frederic Mistral, each house seeming to testify to the life of Mistral: first of all the house of its birth: the Farmhouse of the Judge, then the house of the Lizard surmounted by a sundial where he lived with his mother and of course the house that it made build with its marriage and where it finissa its days (1914). Then finally its last eternal residence, with the cemetery where it rests under the counterpart of the mausoleum of the Jeanne queen that it made build of alive sound.
