Geography

History

The commune of Mahout is located at the North-East of the department of the Batch, in contact with the Corrèze. Its communal territory is located at horse between Causse and Ségala. It comes out from this geographical positioning a duality of landscape formerly very marked between the vineyards caussenards and the chestnut groves of Ségala. The monographs of the 19th century indicate to us that until this time, the wine remains the principal resource of the commune. It is exported until in Auvergne and even until Bordeaux.
It should be noted in addition that at the end of the XIXe century, the commune of Mahout was flourishing since one counted there an important population of 1.530 inhabitants including 497 in the only borough of Mahout. There were several inns and cabarets.
