Mahmud Ahmed Sherifo

Mahmud Ahmed " Sherifo" is politician érythrée N born in 1948 in the province of Akkelé Guzae.

Sherifo finishes its studies Postobligatoires with the college of Dekemhare in 1967. It joined the camps of the Front of Release of Érythrée the same year. It is sent to finish its studies with the Cairo. It returns in 1972, its diploma in hand and joined the protest movement of the young people carried out by Issayas Afeworki and Abraham Tewolde.

Sherifo becomes member of the executive committee of the Liberation popular front of Érythrée and takes part in the development of the movement. It has many important stations during the period 1974 - 1991.

In 1991, following the independence of the Érythrée, it is named vice-president of the Provisional government of Érythrée ( Gezyawi Mengesti Hager Ertra ). Then in 1993, he becomes the first vice-president of the Eritrean republic. He will receive in more the post of minister of the Interior in 1994, and at the time of the cabinet reshuffle of 1997, he leaves the interior for the ministry for the local governments.

Sherifo criticizes the policy of Eritrean president Afeworki during an interview in May 2001, it launches the protest movement which will lead to the " letter of the 15". It is stopped on September 15th, 2001. According to certain sources he would have died in detention in 2003.
