Magnus von Bromell

Magnus von Bromell ( Magnus Bromelius before its ennoblement in 1726) is a Naturaliste, doctor and numismatist Swedish, born with Stockholm, the May 26th 1679, married with Anna Beata Enhjelm , in 1707, and deceased the March 26th 1731.

Magnus von Bromell is the son of the botanist and doctor Olof Bromelius (1639-1705) and of Agneta Svinehufvud , as well as the father of the naturalist and military Lars von Bromell (1713-1782).

Starting from 1697, it leaves to study the natural science and medicine in several European countries, in particular with Leyde near Hermann Boerhaave (1668-1738), with Paris near Joseph Pitton de Tournefort (1656-1708) and with Amsterdam near Frederik Ruysch (1638-1731). It obtains its Doctorat with Rheims, in 1703. It joined then the Collegium medicum of Stockholm, in 1705, then the presidency exerts some, starting from 1724. He also taught medicine with the Université of Uppsala, between 1713 and 1716, then the Anatomie in Stockholm, in 1716. In 1719, it joined the Bergskollegium , the Swedish administration of the mines, and takes the head of its scientific laboratory of Stockholm, in 1724. It was also appointed director of the mines of Lapland, in 1720.

Among his scientific writings, one can in particular raise Lithographiæ Suecanæ Specimen Secundum (1727), the first work of Paléontologie entirely devoted to the fossil Swedish, and Mineralogia (1730), a treaty of Géologie in which he proposes a classification of the mineral according to their Chemical composition.

With his father, it constituted of rich person collections, in particular in Natural history and Numismatique. Part of its botanical collection is preserved at the castle of Skånelaholm , close to Sigtuna. As for the numismatic collection, it was acquired by the queen Ulrique Éléonore of Sweden (1688-1741) and was the subject of a study published in 1931.
