Magneti-Marelli
Magneti Marelli is a very important Italian industrial company which manufactures alternators, batteries for all motor vehicles, of the reels, the power stations and the electronic systems of lighting and many other components in the field of transport.
The head office of the holding company is located at Corbetta in the province of Milan.
The creation of the company goes back to 1919, under name F.I.M.M. - Fabbrica Italiana Magneti Marelli, fruit of a joint-venture between F.I.A.T. (group to which the company always belongs) and of Ercole Marelli, a very important manufacturer of electric rolling stock, whose first factory was established in Sesto San Giovanni, to the doors of Milan.
After beginnings entirely devoted to the components for cars, its activities diversified on the level of the geographical presence with an important internationalization: opening of sites in Paris, London and Brussels, but also in the range of manufacture with the manufacture of the points of lighting and horns, but also with the manufacture of radio operator apparatuses and TV with the creation of the companies RadioMarelli and Fivre (Fabbrica Italiana Valvole Radio operator Elettriche).
At the time of the second world war, the frequent bombardments of the most important industrial sites of the company created one crisis period which Magneti Marelli succeeds in leaving quickly. Since 1967, its capital was entirely repurchased by the group FIAT S.p.A.
The company, become true a holding industrial, continues its policy of growth and absorbs good number of companies of all countries and specialities like:
- lighting with Automotive Lighting which gathers Italian Carello and SIEM, German Robert Bosch Lighting and Brazilian the Cofap,
- carburettors and electronic ignition with Italian Weber, French Jaeger and Solex and Brazilian Cofap,
- instrument panels with Italian Veglia Borletti,
- rear view mirrors with Italian Vitaloni and Brazilian Cofap,
- rolls of the dice with Italian RIV and Brazilian Cofap.
From now on the factories Magneti Marelli are established in each part of the world, everywhere where the car manufacturers are installed: Italy, France, Spain, the United Kingdom, Germany, Poland, Russia, Czech Republic, Turkey, Brazil, Argentina, China, India etc…
Magneti Marelli: inventor of the common rail and the multijet
In collaboration with the Central Ricerche FIAT and Elasis, Magneti Marelli developed the system Common rail of direct gas oil injection for diesel engine rapids. Moreover, he invented and markets since 2006 the system of last generation, the Moteur JTD Multijet.
Magneti Marelli and the sport
Magneti Marelli is the regular supplier of the components and of the electronic systems for the principal international championships, Formule 1, MotoGP, rally WRC, and well of others. In Formula 1 it is also the technical sponsor of the principal stables, inter alia Ferrari, Toyota, Renault Sport then Renault F1 TEAM, Red Bull.
