Magnétar
A magnétar is a neutron star having a hyper-powerful Magnetic field, which emits electromagnetic radiations of high energy, like the x-rays and gamma. Robert Duncan and Christopher Thompson postulated their existence in 1992, and in the decade which followed it was accepted like plausible explanation for the Soft gamma repeater and the abnormal pulsars X.
When a Supernova becomes a neutron star, the intensity of its magnetic field grows. Duncan and Thompson calculated that this one, normally already of 108 Tesla S, could exceed under certain conditions 1011 Tesla. Such a magnetic star is then named magnétar.
Tensions causing of the Tremblements of star occur sometimes in the external layers of the magnétars, made up of plasma of heavy elements (mainly of Fer). These very energy vibrations produce puffs of x-rays and gamma. Such a star is named Soft gamma repeater .
