Maglič

Maglič , in Serb Cyrillic Маглич, is a village of Serbia located in the municipality of Kraljevo, district of Raška. In 2002, it counted 45 inhabitants.

Maglič is a medieval fortress located at approximately 20 km of Kraljevo, in the throats of the Ibar. Built on a hill, it protected the road which connected the valley of the Morava to Kosovo Polje. Into Serb, its name means " the brumeuse".

Structures of the fortress of Maglič

The fortress is consituée of seven turns and a dongeon connected by walls. The turns are typical military constructions of Balkans, with three sides out of stone and the side inside the fortress built out of wood.

Maglič has the door with north and another smaller in one of the turns of south-east.

The interior of the fortress preserves the vestiges of a palate, barraquements and a church devoted to Saint Georges. One also finds there a large tank and a well. Southern part, three turns were built in a way brought closer to offer a better protection against the attacks.

History

Maglič was probably constuit in first half of the 12th century by Stefan Ier Nemanjić, the " first couronné" or by his/her son Stefan IV Uroš Ier. At the time of the Serb Empire, Maglič futla residence of the archbishop Danilo II; it is there that this saint wrote his Hagiographie S.

After the catch of Smederevo the June 20th 1459, the Othoman occupied the fortress.

During the Second Serb revolt against the Turks, the Voïvode Radoslav Jelečanin there surprised the Othomans in a ambush and stopped their projection in direction of Novi Pazar.

Maglič ajourd' today

The fortress partially was restored after the First World War. In the years 1980, took place a news large campaign restoration. The floors of the turns were restored as well as the palisades along the walls of defense.
