Magene

Since 1989, association Magène undertook to create a new repertory of songs in Normand, this with an aim of safeguarding and of making live the language. The original musics of the songs were composed by Daniel Bourdelès and Veronique Pézeril. The authors put in music are of yesterday and today. Among the old authors, let us quote Georges Métivier, Joseph Mague, Augustus Asplet the Large, Charles Lemaître, Pierre Guéroult, Fernand Lechanteur, Louis Beuve. Among the contemporary authors, let us quote Marcel Dalarun, Alphonse Allain, Côtis-Capel and Frank Maistre.

Magene: language and songs Normans of today

Here the detail of recorded CD:

  • 1989 : Calitchumbelet (somersault)

  • 1992: Rouogie of the sei (red sunset)
  • 1994: the louery (gone with the servants)
  • 1998: Dauns men prêchi (in my language)
  • 2000: Caunchounettes normaundes (ditties Normans)
  • 2001: Magène in concert
  • 2004: Ouées de Pirou (geese of Pirou)
  • 2004: Eun miot of souovenin (a little remembering)
  • 2006: DVD of the musical comedy Ouées de Pirou
  • 2007: Veillie normaunde (taken care Norman)

Thus, this repertory of today contributes it to make live the language Norman in a regional context strongly marked by the progressive disappearance of the speakers. One does not count today than approximately 25000 speakers in Normandy.

Magene works narrowly with regional associations: Prêchi Normaund, of Saint-Georges-the-river, Friends of the Keep of Bricquebec and the Popular University Norman of Coutançais. These associations instigate the life of the language Norman by proposing their productions regularly (books, texts, poems, taken care…).

Lastly, by publishing 75 poems of Marcel Dalarun in a work of 240 pages entitled " With men leisi" , the Editions Harmattan made it possible the language Norman to be today distributed in many French-speaking bookstores.

Dictionary

Magene has a Dictionnaire approximately 2500 words Normand S. Some of these words are also in French inhabitant of Quebec, as articles illustrate it on the subject, on the site also.
