Magdalena Kožená

Magdalena Kožená (born in 1973) is a Czech Mezzo-soprano. It appears regularly with the Festival of the Spring of Prague.

Magdalena Kožená was born with Brno in 1973. After studies with the Academy of its birthplace and the College of the applied arts of Bratislava, it is graduate in 1995. In 1996-97 it is member of the Volksoper of Vienna.

Discography

Its discs include/understand the recording of the arias of Jean-Sebastien Bach, of the Roman motets, Italian cantatas, the Messie (with Marc Minkowski for DG/Archiv) of Georg Friedrich Haendel, its first disc solo with the recitals of Antonín Dvořák, Leoš Janáček and Bohuslav Martinů with Graham Johnson (Gramophone Solo Vocal Award, 2001) for Deutsche Grammophon with which it signed a franchise agreement.

More recently, it published recitals and arias of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, Christoph Willibald Gluck and Josef Mysliveček (with the Philharmonie of Prague and Michel Swierczewski), of the arias Frenchwomen with the Mahler Chamber Orchestrated and Marc Minkowski, the Paride ED Elena of Gluck with Paul McCreesh, a disc of recitals with Malcolm Martineau and a very applauded disc of the cantatas of the members of the Famille Bach ( Lamento ) with Musica Antiqua Köln and Reinhard Goebel.

Magdalena Kožená is a singer celebrated for her recitals and concerts. She sang in London, with the Schubertiade Schwazenberg, in Brussels, Paris, Hamburg, Amsterdam, Munich, Prague, Tokyo, Yokohama and Sapporo. In 2006, one could hear it with the Carnegie Hall, in San Francisco, London, Brussels, Lisbon, Vienna, Copenhagen, Amsterdam, Hamburg and Prague.

Its beginnings saw it with the Théâtre of Châtelet in 1999 in the role of Orphée of the Orfeo ED Euridice of Gluck with John Eliot Gardiner, with the Festival of Vienna in the role of Nerone in the incoronazione di Poppea with Minkowski, with the International festival of Edinburgh in the role of Sesto in the clemenza di Tito , with the Opéra of Leipzig in the role of Mélisande with Minkowski, with the International festival of lyric art of Aix-en-Provence in the role of Cherubin, in Netherlands Opera in the role of Sesto Giulio Cesare , with the Festival of Salzburg in the role of Zerlina under the direction of Nikolaus Harnoncourt. It incarnates Mélisande for the centenary of the creation of Pelléas and Mélisande with the National theater of the Op3era Comique of Paris with Marc Minkowski and more recently in the role of Cléopatre in the Giulio Cesare always with Minkowski.

More recently, one could hear it in the role of Idamante in Idoménée with the Festival of Glyndebourne and with that of Salzburg under the direction of Sir Simon Rattle, her husband, as Cherubin in the Marriages of Figaro for the Opera of Bavaria and the Metropolitan Opera (with James Levine), in Dorabella of the Cosi fan tutte with Sir Simon Rattle with the Festival of Easter of Salzburg and in Berlin, in Metropolitan Opera still in the role of Varvara of the Káťa Kabanová of Leoš Janáček) and in Dorabella (with James Levine).
