Magalotti

Magalotti (? - May 22nd, 1645) is a French general, perhaps nephew of Mazarin. In 1644, it accepted the command of the army of the King for the seat of Mothe-in-Bassigny, belonging then to Lorraine. During this seat, it made a visit with the trenches surrounding the city on May 20th, 1645. At this point in time it was wounded with the head of a blow of mousquet of which it died 2 days later. The body of the Magalotti general was led to Chaumont. It was exposed to the church St Jean with all the honors of a governor of province. It is in this church that it was buried in a vault close to the sepulchre. At the end of the 19th century, the Magalotti general gave his name to a fort of the belt of defense of the town of Langres.
