Madiun is a city of the west of the province Indonesia of Java Is, located at 169 km in the south-west of Surabaya, the provincial capital. Its population was of 190.800 inhabitants in 1992.
The city is the chief town of the Kabupaten (department) of the same name.
History
In 1948, Indonesia and the Netherlands sign the agreement known as " of Renville" (of the name of the American warship on which it is signed), which puts an end to the confrontation armed between the two parts. At the end of this agreement, all the units of Guerilla and the Militia S other than those of the government must be dissolved. In Madiun, a group of militiamans of the Communist party indonésien (PKI) refuses disarmament. The Army indonésienne qualifies this act of insurrection. September 30th, the division of elite " Siliwangi" enter in Madiun. Thousands of frameworks of the PKI are carried out and 36.000 are thrown in prison. The general secretary, D.N. Aidit, share in exile in China.
Culture
Close to Madiun a village is whose inhabitants work in the manufacture of figurines of the traditional shadow theater Javanese Wayang kulit . They can also organize spectacles for ceremonies like the marriages and other occasions asking for the behavior of such a spectacle.To 8 km in the east of Madiun, in the village of Nglambangan, ruins are which the inhabitants date from the time of the kingdom of Majapahit, whose will pura (palate) of Lambangsari. They are regarded as crowned by the inhabitants and are the framework of ceremonies of the Javanese traditional religion during the Moslem month of Syuro .
