Madiran

Madiran (occitan: Madiran ) is a common French, located in the department of the Hautes-Pyrénées and the area the Midday-Pyrenees.

Name

It was imagined that Madiran was old “a *Maridan ” deformation of Latin “ Maria Dona ”, name of the owner of sound church and of large the Monastère which existed.

It is more probably old a *Materianus , which means “field of Materius”.

Geography

This city of the Valley of Adour in Gascogne gives its name to the Vignoble of Madiran. The close river is called the Bergons.

History

Its foundation goes up at the time Roman. It appears in the history in 1088 with a reference to the foundation of the Prieuré of Madiran found in the files of the Fathers Jesuits of Toulouse.

Ludger Nabonne mayor of Madiran of 1901 to 1914 and chairs trade union of the wine growers of Madiranais founded in 1906. It made the request for a surface specific to madiranais and makes a request for name. It is his/her son Bernard Nabonne , eminent writer (author of a score of books references) in his turn chair wine growers, which made obtain the appellation contr4ol3ee in 1948.
