Madelon

“Madelon” called also “When Madelon…” is a popular song created by the singer Bach (C-J Pasquier) in 1914. This song owes especially its success with the theater with the armies where Bach will interpret it in front of Poilu S in permission. It became a song then emblematic.

Origins

Words: Louis Bousquet (1914); Music: Camille Robert

The song was interpreted at the origin by comic troupiers, very snuffed during the First World War, the tourlourous.

Bach is also the creator, in 1913, of a famous character, the famous Bidasse

Words

For the rest, the pleasure of the soldier,
It is over there with two steps of the forest,
a house, with the walls very covered with ivy,
“To the tourlourous”, it is the name of the cabaret.
the maidservant is young person and nice,
Légère like a butterfly.
Like its wine, its eye sparkles,
We call it Madelon.
We the night of it, we dream think of it during the day,
It is only Madelon, but for us it is the love.
When Madelon comes to be used to us to drink,
Under the arbor, one passes very close to his underskirt.
And each one tell him a history,
a history with its way.
Madelon for us is not severe
When one takes the size or the chin to him,
It laughs it is all the evil which it can make.
Madelon, Madelon, Madelon!
We have all with the country a country-woman
Which awaits us and which one will marry.
But it is far, well too far so that one says to him,
what one will do when the class will return.
By counting the days, one sighs,
And when the time seems to us long,
All that one cannot say to him,
One will say it to Madelon.
One embraces it in the corners.
It says: “Want you to finish…”
One appears yourself that it is the different one, that pleases well to us.

a corporal in kepi of imagination

was come from there to find Madelon a good morning.
And insane of love, tells him that it was pretty,
And that it came to ask him its hand.
Madelon, not stupid all in all,
answered Him while smiling:
“Why would I take that only one man
Quand I like a whole regiment? ”
Your friends will come, you will not have my hand,
I need some well too to serve to them as the wine.
