Madeleine de Verchères

Madeleine de Verchères (March 3rd, 1678 - August 8th, 1747) was the girl of a lord in News-France (current Quebec). She is regarded as one of heroins of News-France for, at the fourteen years age, to have protected during eight days strong Verchères from the attacks from the Iroquois.

The memory of Madeleine de Verchères is in particular honoured by a statue with the sculptor Louis-Philippe Hébert, inaugurated on September 21st, 1913 on bank of the Fleuve the St. Lawrence with Verchères (Quebec). According to Internet site MEF, " this statue would be largest bronze in Canada."

Academics called into question the veracity of the account of Madeleine de Verchères, process similar to that relating to Dollard of Ormeaux.
