Macta

Macta is a coastal river of Algérie (Western of Mostaganem, Is of Arzew) formed by the meeting of two rivers: Sig and Habra, its course is surrounded by Marais (20 000 ha) partially drained between 1958 and 1962; French troops of the Trézel General were there defeats in June 1835 by the Emir Abdelkader.

A popular tradition of the years 1950 brings back the presence of a Crocodile in these marshes, crocodile whose corpse was indeed found about 1951 (a photograph of cranium remains).

Currently, the remaining marshy zones constitute a natural reserve where fauna and the flora (many species of marine birds and raptors).
