Macrotis will leucura

The small bilbi ( Macrotis will leucura ) was a marsupial of central Australia discovered in 1887. He is regarded as extinct since 1950.

Description

Much smaller than large Bilbi (become Bilbi since the disappearance of small the bilbi), it weighed between 300 and 450 G. It had a brown gray peeling becoming gray blade on the belly with a white tail.

Distribution and habitat

One found it only in the Désert of Gibson and the Grand desert of sand. It had certainly a greater field of distribution but it is unknown.

Food

Carnivore, it nourished small rodents.

Lifestyle

It was a night animal which spent its days in burrows which could reach 2 to 3 m of depth and of which it blocked the entry with sand.

Reproduction

It had ranges of 2 small.

It disappeared trapped by the trappers, devoured by the foxes, competed with by rabbits. The last to be seen in life were it with " Concherie Station" in 1932. The last found specimen is a cranium found in an eyrie in 1967. It seems that the animal had died since less than fifteen years.
