Macintosh Portable
The Macintosh Portable was the first attempt at Apple to make a Macintosh more easily transportable. Launched in September 1989, it was accommodated with much enthusiasm by criticism, but it was sold of it little during the 2 years of its marketing. The cause was certainly its too high price (6500 $) for a machine far from evolutionary and not very powerful compared to the Macintosh of office (Macintosh IIx, IIcx, IIci), price which was partly due to a screen LCD with active matrix, very expensive technology at the time. Weighing more than 7 kg, Macintosh Portable cannot be really regarded a Laptop, but rather as “transportable”. (In comparison the PowerBook 100, launched two years later, weighed only 2,3 kg.) Its battery with acid ensured long a 10 hour endurance to him. The first Model did not have Trackball thus to make use of it was necessary to connect a mouse.
In February 1991, the Macintosh Portable was updated: the screen was replaced by a lit retro screen and the modified RAM, and the price was lowered. Famous Trackball was also added. That is not enough to make take off the sale and marketing was stopped at the end of the same year.
