Machair

The word Gaelic to machair or machar indicates the fertile seaside and of low altitude which one finds in Scotland and Ireland, and in particular in the external Hébrides. The to machair comes from a sudden retreat of the sea level. It is the object of an great attention because of the ecosystem which it shelters, in particular plants, but also of the animal species, like the Corncrake, the Linotte with yellow nozzle, the variable Bécasseau or the large-gravelot Pluvier.
