Macdonald hotel
The Hôtel Macdonald is a hotel built in 1915 in the town of Edmonton, (Alberta), along the Grand Trunk Pacific Railway . The hotel successively belonged to the Canadian National, the hotels of the the Canadian Pacific, and to the Fairmont Hotels and Resorts.
History
The Macdonald Hotel (called " affectionately; The Mac" by Edmontoniens) was conceived by the office of architects Ross and Macdonald , like many other luxury hotels built in Canada at the time. The hotel thought in the style of the hotel-castles was completed the July 5th 1915. Set up over the heights, it dominates one of more urban green big spaces of North America, the valley of the Rivière Saskatchewan. The Macdonald Hotel has splendid gardens in the court of the building.
With the hotel To train Calgary, it was one of the first both establishment to see réatribuer a License for the sale of alcohol by the Alberta Liquor Control Board when Alberta abolishes the Prohibition, in 1924.
An appendix of 300 rooms, of 16 stages (demolished today) was built in 1953 to face at the request of lodging in the city.
