Maccabi Tel-Aviv is a club of Israeli Basket-ball , localized with Tel-Aviv.

The club of basketball belongs to the general sports club of the Maccabi Tel-Aviv of which it is the most famous section.

It is without question the largest club of basketball of Israel, as its prize list with 47 championships proves it. It is also one of the European clubs most famous. It gained indeed 5 titles of champion of Europe and lost 7 finales.

History

The section of basketball gains the national title as of its first season. During these first years, its large rival is another club of the city, Hapoel Tel-Aviv. However, this one gains its last title in 1969.

It joined the European scene in 1958, becoming little by little one of the largest European clubs. Its first championship of Europe is located in 1977. This season is one important season for the history of the club, but also for the Israeli history. In semi-final, Maccabi is opposed to the Soviet club of CSKA Moscow. However, the the USSR is the principal support of the Arab Monde in state of war with Israel. The qualification will make say in accentuated and somewhat faulty Hebrew of the captain, Israélo-American Tal Brody: " אנחנועלהמפהואנחנונישאריםבמפה, לארקבספורטבהכל! " ; (" Anakh' nou Al ha mapa, vé anakh' nou nicharim Ba mapa lo rak bésport béhacol ") " We are on the chart (the planisphere) and we remain there not only in the sporting field, but in all ". Become Stereotyped, this sentence will become a " Gimmick " often begun again, in particular in policy. Maccabi confirms finally, beating the Italian club of Mobilgirgi Varèse by 78 to 77. In 1981, Maccabi gains a second European title, always vis-a-vis an Italian club, Sinudyne Bologna, over the score from 80 to 79.

During the years 1980s, the club takes part in five new finales, all lost.

The years 1990s are then a black period for the club. On the national scene, Maccabi must leave the title to the club Hapoel Galil-Elyon, directed by Pini Gershon. This one, enthusiastic adversary of the club before, becomes its trainer in 1998 to leave this period of food shortage during which the club reaches only once in ten years the Final Furnace.

Under its control, the club finds of its gloss and gains a new European title with the Suproleague 2001. At the time of the season 2003 - 04, Maccabi reinstalls as Gershon trainer who had to leave his functions following racist general information stated against the Afro-américains players: even among the Blacks, there are various colors. There are the dark black and the " moka". " mokas" are more malignant and the " blacks sombres" come from the street. Those which are small métissés as Andrew Kennedy… you notice its statute, its personality (...). The other Blacks are true idiots . This decision makes following poor results on the European level whereas Tel-Aviv must accommodate next Final Furnace of Euroligue. The club carries out its minimum objective to reach this Final Furnace. After a victory over CSKA Moscow in semi-final, it crushes the Fortitudo Bologna finally.

The following year, CSKA Moscow is the big favorite of the Final Furnace which is held in Moscow. But, with surprised of all the observers, the Spanish club of Tau Vitoria ruin the Muscovite hopes and obtains the right to face Maccabi finally. This one gains a second consecutive title, fact which had not been carried out any more since the Pop-84 Split 14 years more early.

2006 see Maccabi disputing its third consecutive final. But the CSKA gains finally the European title, putting fine at the Israeli hopes to gain a third consecutive title.

The season 2007 sees the departure of the Gershon trainer towards Greece. After the departures of Šarunas Jasikevičius in 2005, then Anthony Parker and Maceo Baston at the end of the season 2006, Maccabi must renew its manpower. The Israeli club fails at the stage of the quarterfinal vis-a-vis its Russian rival of the CSKA, not without to have obliged this one to dispute a decisive match.
