Macaw with blue throat
The Macaw with blue throat ( Macaw glaucogularis ), or canindé Macaw ( Macaw caninde ), was redécouvert only in 1992.
Description
This bird resembles the blue Ara superficially. It is characterized some by the absence from green coloring on the level from the face and the cap replaced by a blue nuance sky, the zones of white naked skin around the eyes entirely covered of many blue scratches and especially the blue throat (instead of black), coloring more extended much to this level than the black in the blue Macaw.
Distribution
The macaw with blue throat is endemic of Bolivia. He lives a gigantic little populated and not easily browsable zone, easily flooded savannas of Blessed. Under these conditions, it is difficult to specify the exact distribution of the species. However, Armonia association, carrying its efforts on this aspect, than doubled more the number of sites known to lodge this Macaw and has even discovered a new zone of extension located at the west of Rio Mamoré and historical surface of distribution around the town of Trinidad. In spite of the distance which separates the two populations, it is not impossible that exchanges take place thanks to a chain of forest small islands.
Threats and protection
This species is in critical danger of extinction. The principal threat weighing on it is the illegal traffic of oisillons and the adult birds for the trade of the birds of birdcage, this in spite of an official protection as well at the local level as international. With the financial support of Cepa and CDE, the persons in charge of Armonia have the project to build a écolodge of the same type as that built for the Ara of Lafresnaye, structure which would be also a research station for Bolivian academics. To sensitize the inhabitants of the small towns and the villages present in the surface of distribution of the Macaw at blue throat is also a concern of Armonia: information centers, workshops of environmental education and programs radiophonic are considered.
