Maayan Harod
Maayan Harod ( מעיןחרוד ) is a source of water located at the feet of the Mont Guilboa, not far from the village of Guidona. It belongs to the national parks of Israel.
Maayan Harod is mentioned for the first time in the biblical writings, at the time of the combat of Gédéon against the Madianites - Livre of the Judges (7/1) -.
In 1260, it is the framework of a decisive historical combat which saw the victory of Baybars, soldier with the service of the sultan Mamelouk Qutuz, on the Mongolian armies . It is here about the first large Mongolian defeat.
After the purchase of the grounds neighborhood by Yéhoshoua Henkin in 1920, from the pioneers come to be installed on the spot to found the Kibboutz Eïn-Harod.
Maayan Harod emerges from a small cave bearing the same name, and above which the building is held which was used as residence in Yéhoshoua Henkin. The latter shelters today a school of agriculture and one of the branches of the protective company of Israeli nature. In the adjacent court Yéhoshoua Henkin and his Olga wife are buried there.
In the east of the source one can see the remainders of a water conduit which, until the years 1930 supplied a mill with flour.
