Maasdriel
Maasdriel is a common Dutchwoman, in the province of Gueldre, on Right Bank of the Meuse, opposite Wood-the-Duke. Maasdriel occupies the southern part of the Bommelerwaard. The commune is crossed by the A2.
History of the commune
- In 1999, the commune of Maasdriel amalgamated with the old communes of Ammerzoden, Hedel, Heerewaarden and Rossum. It is the name of Maasdriel which was preserved for the new commune thus formed.
Composition of the commune
There is no locality of the name of Maasdriel. Historically, the commune of Driel was made up of the villages of Kerkdriel, Velddriel and Hoenzadriel. In 1944, during the German Occupation, the name of the commune of Driel was modified in Maasdriel by the Germans, to avoid any confusion with the other Driel of Gueldre.Villages of the commune: Alem, Ammerzoden, Hedel, Heerewaarden, Hoenzadriel, Hurwenen, Kerkdriel, Rossum, Velddriel, Well in Wellseind. Several hamlets, of which Slijkwell and Wordragen.
