Maaninka

Maaninka is a municipality center-is Finland, in the area of Savonie of North.

It is in particular the commune of birth and residence of Jari Räsänen, old cross-country skier medal-holder on several occasions with OJ and the championships of the world.

The municipality is forest and broken, in the middle of a largely preserved nature. One can see there the most water fall of Finland, rather a rapid, 46 height meters. This site of Korkeakoski (the high fast in Finnish) is a tourist site since the 19th century, during which the artists followed one another it.

On the economic plan, industry is practically non-existent, the exploitation of the Bois being still the main wealth. The Unemployment rate remains structurally higher than 15%, but the decrease of the population did not reach the extremes of some other communes. In 50 years, Maaninka nevertheless lost 44% of its inhabitants (6 819 in 1957).

16 villages are scattered there between lakes and forest. Maaninka is bordered by the following communes: Kuopio in the south, Siilinjärvi in south-east, Lapinlahti in the North-East, Iisalmi in north, Pielavesi in the North-West, Tervo and Karttula in south-west.
