It corresponds to the evolution of the old group: DI of Guanabara, (Dissidence of Guanabarra). It acted at the base of a group being separated from the PCB (Brazilian Communist party) because considering it too passive.

The " DI of Guanabara" was active on Rio de Janeiro since 1966, concentrating mainly in the academic world, and organizes many act of Terrorisme against the military regime, in place with the Brésil since 1964.

The MR-8 is close to other groups armed with Extreme-left such as the ALN (Action of National Release), directed by Carlos Marighella, or PCBR. With the difference of the ALN, the MR-8 recommends the creation of a new Marxist and critical party the PCB by affirming that the Révolution, in Brazil, must have a socialist character and not démocratico-middle-class man.

From the strategic point of view, the methods of the MR-8 are connected with those of the ALN.

In 1969, the MR-8 and the ALN coordinate themselves and carry out together their most important action: the Removal of the American Ambassador Charles Burke Elbrick. They then publish a proclamation in which they justify their acts by the fact that they do not have any illusion on the role of the US government in the installation of military dictatorships in Latin America.

They there affirm the power of the resistance in place and ask for the release of political prisoners as well as the publication in the media of proclamation.

Following this action, a very strong repression will be carried out against these groups. Thus on June 27th, 1969, the State removes one of the leaders of the organization Reinaldo Silveira Pimenta.
