MPlayer

MPlayer is a free Multimedia player and Open source distributed under the License public general GNU version 2, and known to deal with very great number of video formats. It is accompanied by MEncoder , which is at the same time a tool of Codage (or Transcodage) and for audio and video assembly.

History

The development of MPlayer started in September 2000 with the Hungarian Árpád Gereöffy. Initially named mpg12play (a reader of files MPEG 1 and 2), then amalgamated with avip (a reader of files AVI), the project was joined by good of other people and progressed considerably.

In 2003, Árpád Gereöffy yielded the place to Alex Beregszászi to develop MPlayer G2 (MPlayer second generation), project currently stopped.

In 2003/2004, company KIS is shown to have copied code of MPlayer, thus violating license LPG.

Use
