MPEG-4 Left 17

MPEG-4 Left 17 or MPEG-4 Timed Text is the format of textual Sous-titers for MPEG-4. It is also streamable what was an important aspect with the creation of the format. It is especially used with the Format container .mp4 but can also be used with the format container .3gp (it is then called 3GPP Timed Text). This last format is technically about identical to the .mp4 but is used more in the mobile phones. 3GPP Timed Text is exactly the same thing as MPEG-4 Timed Text when it is used with the container .mp4.

QuickTime Pro can create this type of flow of subtitling starting from various subtitles. MPEG-4 Timed Text is based on the language XML.
