MP7

MP7 is a Pistolet-mitrailleur answering the principle of APDW (Advanced Personal Defense Weapon) which aims at filling the gap between the conventional machine pistol and the Fusil of attack. The PDW are intended to equip the troops which are not directly employed in the combat of a capacity of significant response. The officers, crews of tanks or being used as artillery do not need to be encumbered of a rifle of attack but must nevertheless be able to face an unexpected attack and to demolish adversaries equipped with jackets splinterproof shield able to stop a ammunition of handgun.

The MP7 is the answer provided by Heckler & Koch to this request. It is about the second weapon put in production answering this requirement, the first being the P90 of FN Herstal. The idea is to propose a light weapon firing a specific ammunition from small gauge having an important initial speed. The MP7 thus fires an original ammunition from 4,6 millimetres for a mass of 1,6 grams leaving the gun at 725 meters/seconds which is able to perforate a helmet or a Bullet-proof jacket until a distance of 200 meters.

The weapon in itself is built out of reinforced polymer of Acier for the carcass. The charger of 20 blows is laid out in the handle. The MP7 is equipped in front of one second collapsible handle and with a telescopic stick to the back. The Arme which is particularly light can thus be drawn with a hand like a large gun because of the weak retreat from its ammunition, with two hands thanks to the two handles Pistolet S or as a weapon of shoulder with the unfolded stick. This weapon is thus particularly general-purpose, it can claim to compete with compact machine pistols like MP5K until the rifles of attack to short gun.

Doubts are emitted on the MP7 in particular on the effectiveness of its ammunition which because of their reduced Caliber most probably present a wounding Pouvoir limited and on the capacity of such a light design to being indeed precise with 200 meters.

Its mechanism with gas is a reduced version of that of the HK G36, which is very rare for a Pistolet-mitrailleur generally operated by retreat. The MP7 started production in 2001 and is currently evaluated by NATO at the same time as its competitor the P90. Final version, the MP7A1, equips since 2004 certain units with the Armed forces in Germany. It is also in equipment in certain units of the special forces in South Korea.
