MLDonkey

MLdonkey is an application of Peer-to-peer multi-networks and Open-source. At the origin, the project was developed under Linux, although now it is available for many operating systems.

Characteristic

Compared to the traditional customers of Peer-to-peer, MLdonkey was conceived to function in Demon. (This software functions in background, and does not need graphical interface to function).

Favors: The resources memory/processor related to the posting of a window are minimized. It can also be controlled remotely via HS on a lodged waiter datedsome.

The heart of the application is thus accessible by several skews:

Installation

The installation of this software is all the same to reserve for an informed public, because the application is provided only with its sources. However, the package is very well made, and it is not no need to have the compiler Ocaml (it is downloaded and compiled automatically with the request during the principal process of compilation). Moreover documentation and is very well made complete. The installation must then be done manually.

On certain distributions GNU/Linux, Ubuntu for example, it is simply necessary to download packages mldonkey-server and mldonkey-GUI.

The installation on the distribution Gentoo is done via Emerge (Net-p2p/mldonkey emerges). Using USES FLAGS, it is possible to specify if a " installation is wanted; demon" (configurable and automatizable via the boot levels and the corresponding files of configuration: it is for example possible to regulate a level " slow" so that mldonkey is discrete or a level " fast" so that mldonkey takes more band-width) or " gui" (aMule type, follower… etc: the core is launched at the same time as the graphical interface and is dependant for him).

Use

With the use: the application is remarkably stable, and enough treasurer in memory.

Development

MLdonkey is written in language Ocaml. It is a language rather little spread, and so the evolutions require to know the language used. However, the software is all the same regularly and quickly updated, like proved it the group of developers while being the second to implement the network quantified FastTrack in the list of their supported protocols. Moreover developments follow of enough close the last evolutions of the protocols EDonkey/EMule.

The founder of MLdonkey is Fabrice Fessant of INRIA.

List supported protocols

  • EDonkey
  • BitTorrent

  • FastTrack
