MD4

MD4 , for Message Digest 4 , is an algorithm of chopping conceived by the professor Ronald Rivest of the Massachusetts Institute off Technology. The size of the signature is of 128 bits. The algorithm was abandoned with the profit of MD5 after the discovery of weaknesses in its design (Den Boer and Bosselaers). Other attacks even more effective followed, in particular by Hans Dobbertin of the cipher office German and Chinese team at the origin of the attack on MD5 (Wang and Al ). For this reason, the MD4 cannot in no case to be regarded as cryptographiquement sure since collisions can be generated with a number of operations about 2^ {8} operations. This magnitude is very low compared to 2^ {64} necessary for a Paradoxe of the birthdays.
