MC5
MC5 (Motor City Five) is a group of American Rock, often considered as precursor of the Punk Rock'n'roll and the Hard rock. Formed in 1964 with Strait, the United States, whereas its members still attend the Université, the group will separate in 1972.
Considered for its explosive scenic performances, the group however had a rather short professional path and was quickly forgotten by its contemporaries. Often quoted like influences major by the groups Punk of the end of the Années 1970, it acquired however later a statute of " group culte" that it preserves still today. Their piece more known, Kick Out The Jams , was taken again by very many artists.

Biography
Beginnings
The history of the MC5 starts with a friendship between 2 American high-school pupils, both singers and guitarists, Wayne Kramer and Fred Smith. Impassioned very early by the incipient Rock'n'roll, they form, still adolescent, each one their own Rock group. In front of the many defections of musicians due to the call of the university and more stable trades, the most decided members of the two groups link in 1964 their forces within the Headhunters (Headhunters).Extremely of a soon sufficient local success to live of their music, the musicians engage as a bass player the young person Rob Derminger, a friend of the brother of Kramer, implied in the scene Beatnick of Strait. Renamed Rob Tyner, this last proposes to change the name of the group into Motor City 5 (in reference to Detroit, called " the city of the Automobile " and whose economy entirely rests, at the time, on this Industrie, like with the group with success Dave Clark Five), before leaving it, concert day before, because of its difficulties of learning the low one.
Beginning 1965, Tyner reinstates the group, this time at the post of singer. With this épqoue, most of the members of the MC5 are still at the university, and groups it plays only of the resumptions, which does not prevent its music, very energetic and inspired by the Rock-and-roll like Free jazz, to attract a public rather many.
In 1966, the MC5 becomes acquainted with John Sinclair, poet hippie, chronicler and founder of a newspaper underground, condemned several times for possession of Marijuana. More amateur of Jazz that of Rock'n'roll, this last agrees nevertheless to become them " guide" within its association underground Trans-Coils Energies . Very implied with the extreme left, Davis has a great influence on the group, whose concerts become very provocative: calls to the Revolution, murder simulated of the singer… the MC5 also start to consume significant amounts of drugs, in particular Cannabis and LSD.
First great successes
Almost playing every evening in the surroundings of Strait, the MC5 gains soon a sulfurous reputation, relayed by the local press which compares the group with a natural cataclysm. In 1968, Trans-Coils Energies leaves their first individual, which contains Lookin At you and Borderline " , two original pieces. The first pressings are exhausted in a few weeks, and the disc reached with the end of the year 7000 sales.
After the riots of Strait of 1967, the members of the group settle in the city close to Ann Arbor. Noticed by Jac Holzman, chairman of Elektra Records, their first album from the live start will be recorded in Russ Gibb' S Grande Ballroom de Detroit, October 30th and 31st 1968 and will leave into 1969 pennies the title Kick Out The Jams .
This scathing attack live without concession will mark definitively the history of the music rock'n'roll while returning account without ornament of the power and the subversion which accompanied the scenic services by the MC5.
In 1970 on the Atlantic label, the MC5 publish an excellent album studio Back In The USA on which figure a version of the piece " Lookin At you".
High Time appears in 1971 on the same label but success is decreasing and the problems of Drogue S undermine the group and its cohesion.
During the English round of February 1972, the bass player Michael Davis is replaced successively by Steve Moorhouse then by Derek Hugues for the remainder of the European round which will pass by the France.
Faintness within the group persists and in November 1972, Dennis Thompson then Rob Tyner from goes away.
After having tried to start again the rev counter of Motor City Five by integrating a new beater (Richie Dharma) and taken on their account song for the round in France and Scandinavia, Wayne Kramer and Fred " Sonic" Smith return to the USA, play a last concert in Large Ballroom de Detroit then definitively turn off the engine of Five in the night of December 31st, 1972.
Their larger hit was without any doubt legendary the " Kick Out The Jams " who accompanied by his famous " Motherfucker" was censured for its abusive words. Group MC5 was one of the precursors of vagueness Punk. Certain purists of classification define them as making party of the movement Protopunk.
Dennis Thompson will continue a musical career by forming New Order (Us version) in 1978 with Ron Asheton, the guitarist of the Stooges before both do not join to the Australian musicians a Radio Birdman to found the transitory one but shining New Race in 1981.
Fred " Sonic" Smith found, in 1978, one moment the flame with a group named Sonic' S Rendez-Vous Band made up of the beater Scott Asheton (ex Stooges and brother of Ron), of the guitarist Scott Morgan (ex Rationals present on the sessions of High Time) and of Gary Rasmussen to low to create in particular striking it piece " City slang". Fred Sonic Smith dies in 1995, leaving a famous widow, the singer Patti Smith.
Wayne Kramer will continue until the beginning of the new millenium a career mainly solo flirtant with the hardcore, also côtoyant, on the occasion, Scott Morgan (Sonic' S Rendez-Vous Band), Denis Tek (Radio Birdman and New Race) within Dodge Main in 1996.
Rob Tyner as for him is deceased in 1991.
In 2003, Wayne Kramer, Michael Davis and Dennis Thompson will form DKT-MC5 for a series in concerts announced like a celebration of the music of the MC5, to which will join Ian Astbury (The Cult), Lemmy Kilmister (Motorhead), Dave Vanian (Damned) and Nick Royale (Hellacopters). In 2006, it is with the singer LISA Kekaula (The Bellrays) that the three veterans launch out in a new European round.
A DVD " Sonic revolution: celebration off the MC5" has; will testify to the event.
