MAPLE

The maples are Arbre S of the kind Acer pertaining to the family of the Sapindacée S (formerly Acéracée S), in the order of the Sapindales.

Trees or shrubs with Sap often sweetened. Sheet S very diverse. Calice 5-left, with overlapping segments. Petal S 5 or null. Cheesecloth S 4-12, often 8. Bilocular ovary. Formed fruit of 2 Samare S winged, joined together at the base, uniséminées.

Description

Their Fruit, called Samare, is twinned in Disamare, the shape of propeller. The Graine thus can, thanks to the wind, being transferred onto considerable distances.

The maple generally flowers at the end of the winter or at the beginning of spring. In certain species, the flowers appear before the sheets. Their small flowers have 5 Sépale S, 5 petals of approximately 3 mm length, 8 cheesecloths from approximately 1 cm length in 2 rings of 6, and 2 pistils or a pistil with 2 styles. The ovary has two Carpelle S welded biovulés.

The sheets are always opposed and, in the majority of the species, with webbed nervuration with 3 to 9 veins of which one in the medium.

Among maples, one finds species used for the production of the Maple syrup in North America, of the species providing of the sawlog and others finally used like ornamental trees for the particularly cut out form their sheets or for the coloring of their foliage in autumn.

The Latin name is " acerabulus".

Symbolic system

The maple sheet ( Acer saccharum ) figure on the flag of the Canada.

With the Japan, one particularly appreciates the maple of Japan and, each autumn, the Japanese appreciate to go to admire their colors blazing for the period that they called " Momijigari " (i.e. " to admire the érables"). The Noces of maple symbolize the 58 years of Mariage in the French folklore.
