M92

M92 is an object of the Catalog Messier. Located at 26  000 light-years of us, in the Constellation of Hercules, this globular Amas is one of most splendid to observe.

History

The cluster was independently discovered by Johann Elert Bode in 1777 then by Charles Messier in 1781 which put it in its catalog. In 1783, William Herschel was the first to solve the cluster in star S.

Characteristics

M92 is located at 26  000 light-years of the Solar system and is thus a little more distant than its neighbor M13. The star concentration of the cluster in its center is very important. The Masse of the cluster is high since it is of approximately 300  000 solar masses. The cluster would approach us at the speed of 110 km/s.

Characteristics

The location of the cluster is rather difficult. A means is to seek in the North-East of the medium of the segment connecting the Iota stars to Eta of the constellation of Hercules. The cluster is visible with Jumelles and then has the aspect of a diffuse spot blanchâtre. A Télescope of 200 mm makes it possible to solve it under good conditions.
