M6 Suisse

M6 Suisse is a variation for the French-speaking Switzerland of the television channel French general practitioner private M6.

History of the chain

M6 Suisse was officially agreed by the SCUMS on October 2nd, 2001 on television and authorized to diffuse its program on a second specific satellite signal for the Suisse with the publicities adapted to this market (advertizing window). The chain is diffused in light on the satellite Eutelsat W3A (7°Est), like on some Swiss cable networks.

November 17th, 2003, TSR deposited felt sorry for against M6 Suisse before the civil court Freibourgese for violation of the royalties and unfair competition. The TSR shows M6 not to respect the rebroadcast rights and/or the rights of exclusivenesses for certain programs (in particular series and films) that the TSR acquired for Switzerland. The Freibourgese Court not being pronounced in favor of the TSR, the latter announced on March 19th, 2007 to have made recourse near the Federal court.

September 5th, 2007, French-speaking Switzerland Television announced to have gained a battle in the litigation the opponent with M6. The Federal court indeed cancelled the verdict of the Freibourgese Court which will have to re-examine the file. This decision does not have an influence on the diffusion of M6 Suisse.

Publicities for Switzerland are managed by the Multi-media company IP (Swiss) SA which already deals with several advertizing windows in German-speaking Switzerland.

Program

M6 Suisse diffuses the same programs strictly as the French version with the difference of the commercials which are specific to the Swiss market.

At the time of the Football world cup of 2006, the matches diffused by M6 were not diffused by M6 Suisse because the rebroadcast rights of these competitions for the Suisse belonged to TSR (via the SR). The televiewers of the Téléréseau X taking again this signal thus found themselves in front of a black screen, causing the anger of the subscribers. This problem, which had given in light the question of the legality of this advertizing window, pushed some Téléréseau X to return temporarily to the French signal.

Distribution

Currently, the majority of the Téléréseau X French diffuse M6 Suisse. Certain networks, in particular Freibourgese and neuchâtelois, practically do it since the beginning. M6 Suisse conquered the basin lemanic only later since the téléréseaux ones a long time refused to diffuse this chain. Thus, Naxoo diffuses M6 Suisse, in the Canton of Geneva and in part of the Valaisan Chablais, officially since March 1st, 2007 (according to the subscribers, since in February). The Industrial Services of Lausanne diffuse the chain since June 4th, 2007. All these networks diffused the original version of M6 previously.

To facilitate the extension of its zone of diffusion and thus to increase the selling price of its publicities, M6 remunerates the téléréseaux ones diffusing its Swiss signal.

With these new zones of diffusion, Multi-media IP estimates at 1 ' 000 ' 000 the number of potential televiewers for M6 Suisse (June 2007). Since the last extensions, the pages of publicity for Switzerland appear more filled (less pubs " stop-trou" or more topicality) and there is less of repetitions than by the past (certain spots were sometimes diffused more twice by page of publicity).
