The Tank M60 Patton American was developed starting from the Char M48 A2 starting from 1956 and entered in service in 1960. It was the last of a line of tank called Patton starting from the Char M46.

Two years later, the US Army received first M-60 A1. Object of multiple improvements, the last version, M-60 A3, saw its production stopped in 1983. Approximately: 15000 specimens, all alternatives confused were built.

It is used as a basis for transport of troop M113.
