M54
M54 (or NGC 6715 ) is a globular Amas located in the constellation of the Sagittarius. He was discovered by Charles Messier on July 24th 1778.
During years, the distance separating M54 from the Solar system was estimated between 50 000 and 65 000 light-years. Out, observations carried out in 1994 showed that M54 is located in fact apart from the Milky Way, and that it belongs to another satellite galaxy of ours and who had just been discovered, the elliptic dwarf galaxy of Sagittarius, by thus making the first extragalactic globular cluster with being discovered (even if at the time Messier no idea had any).
The distance was thus re-examined with the rise, with approximately 87 400 light-years, with a 300 light-years diameter. It is about an extremely dense cluster (of class III), with a luminosity of 850 000 solar luminosities, and a absolute Magnitude of -10.
M54 contains at least 82 variable stars proven, including 55 of standard RR Lyrae.
