M34
The object number 34 of the Catalog Messier is a open Amas (named M34 or NGC 1039 ), located in the Constellation of Persée. He was discovered by Giovanni Battista Hodierna, the real date of this discovery not being known with precision, the only thing which one is certain being that he observed it before 1654, since the cluster appeared in the catalog which he published in this date.
M34 is located roughly at 1 400 light-years of the Solar system, and the last estimates give an age of 180 million years. It contains a hundred star the S, most brilliant having a Magnitude connect of +7,9.
The apparent diameter of the cluster is of 35 minutes of arc, which, taking into account the distance, gives approximately 14 light-years a real diameter.
