M2 (globular cluster)
See also: m2
m2 ( NGC 7089 ) is a globular Amas discovered by Giovanni Domenico Maraldi in 1746 located in the Verseau. It was solved out of stars by William Herschel. It is one of richest and densest in star S which is known.
Characteristics
The cluster has more 100 000 stars distributed in an area of 200 light-years and is characterized by its elliptic form (less marked than at M19). It contains a score of variable stars including 3 Céphéide S which makes it possible to estimate the distance of it at 37 000 light-years. Its age, known thanks to its population of stars, is estimated at approximately 13 billion years.
Observation
M2 is located at 5° in the north of β Aquarii (Sadalsud). It is observable with the Jumelles in the shape of a diffuse spot. A Télescope of at least 200 mm is necessary to solve the star cluster.
