Mārtiņi

The Mārtiņi is an old Latvian , celebrated festival on November 10th, marking the end of the Automne and the beginning of the Hiver.

The festival must mark the transfer of Ūsiņš with Mārtiņš, two divinities. Ūsiņš is called upon during the be, whereas Mārtiņš is a god of the Hiver. The festival also marks the end of the preparations for the winter, such as the salting of the meats and fish or the storage of cereals. It is in Latvia one bank holiday.
