Mînâkshî

Mînâkshî (or Meenakshi in English) is, in l´ Hindouisme, a princess-goddess woman of Shiva. Its name is marked meen (Poisson) akshi (eye).

D´après the legend, it was born with eyes in the fish shape, a light fish odor and a third center. All these singularities having to disappear the day from its meeting with his/her husband-to-be.

It is guardian of Madurai in India of the south, where a temple is devoted to him and where an imposing festival celebrates each year its marriage.

Raised into warlike highly skilled, it reigned following her father, conquering the " world entier" until the day when, arrived in front of Shiva, in the the Himalayas S, it was invaded of timidity and a very female reserve.

This myth reflects the will of brahmanic orthodoxy well to subject the south dravidient of India, of which one of the aspects - and not of least was the statute of equality of the men and the women.

Minakshi Devi

It also bears the name of Minakshi Devi. Like mark of respect, its complete name is Śrī Mînâkshî Devî .

Just like those of fish, the eyes of Minakshi Devi are always open, scanning the heart of its faithful.
