About square interval, generally decorated with reliefs under a horizontal stringcourse.
Etymology
From the Greek “métopê comes”, “méta”: enter and “aperture”: opening.Note (S)
- In the doric plank , it alternates with the Triglyphe S. a rather thin plate carries the reliefs and remains independent of the posterior part, or Against-métope.
- Half-métope : portion of métope occupying the angle of a doric plank since the Rebirth. Indeed the ancient doric plank is turned over on an excentric triglyphe compared to the column.
