Méthymne

Méthymne is a Greek quoted of the island of Lesbos, founded by the Éoliens towards It falls under the domination from the Perses and takes part in the revolt of the Ionie. It is forced, like all the Ionian cities, to provide warships to Darius I {{er}}, then with Xerxès I {{er}} during the medic Guerres.

It enters, with Mytilène, in the Ligue of Délos but refuses alliance Spartan in 429 and does not revolt against Athens. Its territory is thus saved during the terrible Athenian reaction in 428. It passes however under the lacédémonienne influence after the battles of Aigos Potamos in 405.
