Métaplasme

In Rhetoric, one names métaplasme all phonetic or morphological Modification which deteriorates the integrity of a word per addition, suppression, substitution or permutation (are the four fundamental operations that the Groupe µ described well) of units (phonetic or morphological).

The métaplasmes are described in detail in the articles which are devoted to them.

Métaplasmes by addition

  • Prosthesis: addition of one or more phonemes at the beginning of word;
  • Paragoge (and Phoneme ephelcystic, Connection): addition of one or more phonemes at the end of the word;
  • Anaptyxe : insertion of a vocalic phoneme enters of the consonants;
  • épenthèse : insertion of a vocalic or consonant phoneme enters of the consonants;
  • Dieresis: separation of a syllable in two by vocalization of a spirante;

Métaplasmes by suppression

  • syncope (and hyphérèse): removal of a complete syllable;
  • Apocope (and elision): suppression of one or more phonemes at the end of the word;
  • Apheresis (and opposite elision): suppression of one or more phonemes at the beginning of the mot.

All these suppressions are Amuïssement S.

Métaplasmes by fusion

When two vowels are in Hiatus, their fusion is a Synalèphe by:
  • Contraction;
  • Filth;
  • Syneresis;
  • kṣaipra ;
  • Synizèse ;
  • Coalescence.

Métaplasmes by displacement or permutation

  • métathèse : permutation of one or more or less close phonemes;
  • Métathèse of quantity: permutation of the vocalic Quantity of vowels in contact.
  • Anagram: literary process of permutation of letters.
