Métaplasme
In Rhetoric, one names métaplasme all phonetic or morphological Modification which deteriorates the integrity of a word per addition, suppression, substitution or permutation (are the four fundamental operations that the Groupe µ described well) of units (phonetic or morphological).
The métaplasmes are described in detail in the articles which are devoted to them.
Métaplasmes by addition
- Prosthesis: addition of one or more phonemes at the beginning of word;
- Paragoge (and Phoneme ephelcystic, Connection): addition of one or more phonemes at the end of the word;
- Anaptyxe : insertion of a vocalic phoneme enters of the consonants;
- épenthèse : insertion of a vocalic or consonant phoneme enters of the consonants;
- Dieresis: separation of a syllable in two by vocalization of a spirante;
Métaplasmes by suppression
- syncope (and hyphérèse): removal of a complete syllable;
- Apocope (and elision): suppression of one or more phonemes at the end of the word;
- Apheresis (and opposite elision): suppression of one or more phonemes at the beginning of the mot.
All these suppressions are Amuïssement S.
Métaplasmes by fusion
When two vowels are in Hiatus, their fusion is a Synalèphe by:- Contraction;
- Filth;
- Syneresis;
- kṣaipra ;
- Synizèse ;
- Coalescence.
Métaplasmes by displacement or permutation
- métathèse : permutation of one or more or less close phonemes;
- Métathèse of quantity: permutation of the vocalic Quantity of vowels in contact.
- Anagram: literary process of permutation of letters.
- Spoonerism: anagram extended to a Sentence.
