Counted among the Argonautes, he is the father of Patrocle (the identity of the mother is prone to guarantee: the Pseudo-Apollodore (III, 13,8) advances the names of Sthénélé, Polymèle and Périopis; Hygin (XCVII) quotes Philomèle).

It is briefly evoked in Iliade where the councils are reported which it gives to his son before the departure for Troy (XI, 786-789):
“Achilles, by the race, is above you, my son;
But it is your junior, even if it is higher to you,
With you to speak to him with wisdom, of the instruire
And to direct it: he will see well what he gains there. ”
