Mégiscane river
The river Mégiscane is one of the most important rivers of the area of the Abitibi-Témiscamingue, with the Quebec.

Geography

Toponymy
Its name, like that of the lake, derives from the algonquin metshishkan or mesiskine and means hook, in reference to its quality like place of fishing.
Hydroelectric production
A hydroelectric stopping bearing the same name was built in 1954 in the municipality of Tuque, in Mauricie. Sometimes a second stopping and a channel are used to deviate partially the flood of the river to supply the Gouin tank and the hydroelectric stoppings of the Rivière Saint-Maurice.
