Médiatif
In Linguistic, the médiatif is a verbal mode making it possible to bring back a speech or information without giving an opinion as for its veracity. The nonmédiatif on the contrary indicates that the speaker implies himself in the assertion. The médiatif one is sometimes called mode obliques .
One uses also sometimes the term (not) testimonial , but this one has an ambiguity of interpretation, insofar as it does not specify which is regarded as being pilot brought back facts or situation (however, generally testimonial is equivalent to nonmédiatif ); or (not) assumed .
In various languages, like the Bulgare, the Turkish etc, one uses specific verbal forms thus to mark that the speaker was pilot, or at least guarantees the exactitude of the facts that it presents.
- Exemple in turc: Şemsiyeni evde unut' tun “You forgot your umbrella” (I know it, I saw you not taking it)
- Exemple in Tatar : syïla by “it levelled” (I have myself considering which it levelled)/ syïla gan “it levelled” (I did not see myself that it levelled, I know it only because someone else said it to me or according to the result)
In French, where the médiatif one does not exist, one can use in the place the Conditionnel, as the Média S do it:
- According to certain sources, two hostages would have been relâchés' yesterday .
The concept of médiatif is connected with that of epistemic method .
