Médavy
Médavy is a common French, located in the department of the Orne and the area Basse-Normandie.
Geography
The Commune is located at the entry of the Nickel silver plain, with the limit of the Norman Scrap-metal and the Pole. It is limited to North by the Flowering ash and its affluent the Gift and to its origin to south-east by the brooks of the Gironde and of the Shore. Its surface of 434 hectares makes of it the least wide commune of the canton and the Community of communes of the Country of Mortrée. There remains only two farms.
The homogeneous and argillaceous basement gives grounds cold and difficult to work, formerly favourable with the development of the pastures.
History
The name of Médavy could come from Media Via (half way between Sées and Argentan) or from Me (for Mesnil, field) of David. The history of the commune is related to that of its castle which defended passage of the Flowering ash to the crossing of two ancient ways. Thestrong one, set up at the 12th century was dismantled in 1630 and yielded to the place with a castle of the 18th century (V. below).
The most former known lord is Hugues de Médavy governor of Alençon in 1113.
